New Employee Quick Guide to Success

Before the First Day:

  • Review and complete necessary forms as directed by HR
  • All New Employee Orientation sessions take place on the Jamestown Campus at the President’s House unless otherwise indicated.  The address to this location is 101 Bonner Road, Jamestown, NC.  Parking is available in the lot adjacent to the President’s House.

On the First Day:

  • Meet with HR for New Employee Orientation to review college policies and benefits, including health, dental and vision plans (typically 8:30am- 12:00pm)
  • Meet with Organizational Development for continuation of New Employee Orientation – an overview of GTCC history, Campus Safety, Technology tools, Campus tour, etc. (typically 1:00pm- 4:00pm)
  • Obtain a GTCC Colleague Identification Number
  • Obtain your work email address and activate your account. Faculty ONLY – Obtain Moodle account and login information
  • Obtain Learner Web login and access information
  • Obtain a GTCC Identification Badge
  • Secure keys and/or access cards as required
  • Obtain a parking permit

In the First Week:

  •  Meet with supervisor to review job expectations and departmental procedures
  • Meet with your supervisor to discuss your job description and performance expectations – Initial Employee Performance Appraisal (EPA)
  • Meet with department learning partner (buddy) to help you become more acquainted with the college and department structure and understand your role
  • Register with the E2Campus Alert System
  • Set up your voice mail message

In the First Month

  • Complete GTCC’s Annual Mandatory Required Training Track, as assigned (to be completed within 30 days of hire)
  • Complete job-required training as assigned.
  • Schedule weekly or monthly meetings with supervisor and/or learning partner
  • Become familiar with budget and finance procedures and policies, if applicable
  • Complete the 30-Day New Employee Survey
  • FOR FACULTY ONLY – eLearning (Moodle)
    • Level One – Required completion of all faculty members within 30 days of hire
    • Levels Two and Three – Required completion if teaching online or hybrid courses within 30 days of hire

First 60 Days

  • Attend monthly Onboarding sessions with Organizational Development

First 90 Days

  • Prepare to discuss the performance objectives on EPA with supervisor (3-month review)

At 6 Month

  • Prepare to discuss the performance objectives on EPA with supervisor (6-month review)

At 9 Month

  • Prepare to discuss the performance objectives on EPA with supervisor (9-month review)

First Year

  • Prepare to discuss the performance objectives on EPA with supervisor (12-month review).  Discuss goals and objectives for upcoming year.
